Websites, logos, posters, apps - almost everything you see has had a graphic designer's touch. And if it hasn't, it probably should have.
As a graphic designer you are given a brief and expected to bring this to life visually. It is a skill and an art form all in one. Bring your love of fonts, imagery and the golden ratio and prepare for a creative and rewarding career.
You will learn the processes involved in following a brief from concept stage to presentation; evaluating feedback, to developing the final product.
In the Design and Visual Arts classes you will learn how to effectively produce drawings to make your concepts come to life. You will learn the graphic software used in the industry to produce work and you will develop a portfolio that showcases your ability to follow a design process as well as complete projects for presentation and marketability.
Choosing the right subjects in year 11 is important. These preliminary subjects will give you a strong foundation in theory and practice and set you up for your final year and your major works.
You'll learn about colour, composition, form and function as well as art and design history which will provide a good foundation for your career pathway.

Your design portfolio starts here with major works and projects. It's always important to check prerequisites for courses at TAFE, universities and colleges. Many require a portfolio for entry.
You can also gain bonus points for certain subjects using the Educational Access Schemes (EAS) at certain tertiary institutions.

Work today is changing so rapidly that planning a career is complex. Careers are constantly changing and becoming more flexible and dynamic so you'll need different skills and strategies to navigate outside industries.
In our unique year 11 program you'll explore future employment options while working on real world projects within the college, industry and community. In the past students have worked on collaborations with the Royal North Shore Hospital to tell stories about the hospital's heritage. The work was then exhibited at Willoughby Council.
In 2016 students worked on projects for Vivid Ideas and Balls Head Reserve.
