Where nature and humanity connect and collide.
HEXAD is an ambitious event with creative education at its core. It provides a platform for Bradfield Senior College creative industries students to immerse themselves in a real-world project as vital preparation for their future careers. HEXAD is created using filmed footage of art, dance, animation, photography, fashion, poetry, and storytelling, accompanied by music and soundscapes to provide an immersive experience.
Students with skills and specialisation in various creative industries use project-based learning to work collaboratively, using design and future thinking processes to take a project from concept to delivery. With industry and community involvement, these young creatives develop real-world skills alongside technical, academic and workplace skills, better preparing them for work and future study.
Audiences can observe both the process of progressive creative education at play, and the result - a spectacular immersive event.
This is the six film compilation of HEXAD as it played at Bradfield Senior College on June 1st 2023, and later at Block Party in October 2023. The film comprises of six themes, which explore theme of humanity's relationship to nature, both the connections and the collisions. It is a multidisciplinary film, with each film bringing together multiple artworks into their edits.
The film begins with untouched and pristine nature. Audiences then travel through the emergence of humanity’s harmonious connection to wilderness, the implementation of technology and development at odds with nature; the resilience of nature in the overlooked natural wonders of the urban environment and the clever connections that arise when nature informs and facilitates technological advancements. Hexad ends with nature as an integral part of the solution to environmental mistakes and human-caused problems.
HEXAD marked Bradfield's first foray into the multiscreen immersive presentations that have become the cutting edge of art media presentation. In this video, Design and Visual Arts Learning Coordinator Kim Kofod discusses the germination of this idea, and the powerful form that it ultimately took.
