Course Topics

Music is a medium of personal expression that enables the sharing of ideas, feelings and experiences. In these two years you will have the opportunity to develop your musical abilities and potential. Composition, theory and practical are combined to provide an immersive musical experience.

The focus is on developing your aural awareness in a diverse range of genres through performance-based activities, composition and critical analysis.

Performance Opportunities

Putting the theory into practice is vital for our music students.

Throughout the year our students have the opportunity to perform at College functions including Lunchbox, Bradstock and Sonic Lounge.

We are also regularly asked for students to appear at regional dance and drama festivals, band competitions, music gigs, film festivals and at the annual awards ceremonies for TAFE NSW and local community performance opportunities such as Block Party (2023) or the Artarmon Street Festival (2024).

Sonic Lounge

Sonic Lounge is a free showcase of HSC Music 1 student devised performances. Students develop their music performances from the start of the HSC. Since the practical HSC marking is closed to external audiences, the Sonic Lounge gives Music 1 students an opportunity to present their works to an audience.

Facilities

Music 1 takes advantage of the purpose built music spaces throughout the College.

These facilities include multiple music rehearsal rooms, a music recording studio, a theatre performance space, a small external stage platform, and two computer rooms for audio editing and composition.

Software available for use in the course includes Pro Tools and Garage Band.

Our Performing Arts faculty is renowned for HSC results and industry expertise.

With extensive experience in teaching Music 1 you can be confident your teachers can guide you successfully through the HSC.

Merv Sequeira
Teacher - Music 1, Entertainment, Music Industry

Mervyn has been teaching music for over 15 years and is also an industry active professional musician and bandleader. He also teaches Entertainment and brings practical industry skills to enhance a strong academic approach. His Entertainment students have achieved 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the NSW HSC exams in previous years.

Chloe Angel
Teacher - Music Industry, Screen and Media, Music 1

Chloe is an experienced VET teacher and university lecturer and is also active in the Industry as a musician, writer, and actor. In a previous life, Chloe worked professionally as an Opera and Musical Theatre performer, and backstage dep across South-East Asia, the UK, and Australia. She has a Masters in Music and Media, specialising in divergent representation.
