Congratulations to our Class of 2024 graduate Joel Fell, who has been nominated for the Encore Showcase for his HSC Music 1 Composition 'Digital Cataclysm'. This reel presents the composition in full, and it can also be heard at our soundcloud.

Joel described the composition process of 'Digital Cataclysm' as being full of lessons: "My goal with this composition was to create a piece of music that really takes the listener on a journey and tells a story. It started with a great idea one afternoon, but then my computer broke, and I lost everything.

"I couldn’t properly remember how my original melodies sounded, and it took me ages to come up with something strong again. I realized I work better when I have something to spark my creativity, so I used the music video Addicted to Bass by Puretones as inspiration. That helped me write ideas that felt like they matched the energy of the visuals.

"Eventually, I came up with about six ideas I really liked, but then I had to figure out how to tie them all together into one smooth, flowing track. The whole process was frustrating and took a lot of trial and error, but in the end, I created a piece of music I’m really proud of."

Joel was also awarded Creative Student of the Year amongst his Bradfield cohort. He is pursuing a career in music production following graduation.
