BSC: Project Luna Park 2025

The Blueprint: What We’re Working On
On the 7th of February 2025, Bradfield Senior College launched SMILE, the 11th annual project, to commemorate Luna Park's 90th birthday. A selection of artworks will be created by students, such as an interactive mural about Luna Park's history, a collection of wearable art pieces, a verbatim theatre audio installation, and an open-air event at the college on June 5th.
Our Why: The Reason Behind It All
For nine decades, Luna Park Sydney, which opened on October 4, 1935, has been a vital part of Sydney's entertainment and cultural scene. Luna Park is a testimony to Sydney's architectural and recreational past as a heritage-listed asset. It is crucial to celebrate this milestone and make sure its legacy endures because of its everlasting attractions and unique Art Deco design, which have brought joy to generations.
Luna Park has historically served as a hub for social interaction. Celebrating its 90th anniversary fosters long-lasting memories, promotes local tourism, and fortifies ties within the community.
An opportunity to consider Luna Park's history and its influence on Sydney's cultural development is also provided by this festival. We guarantee that its legacy endures by keeping in mind its past.
By celebrating this milestone, we encourage community involvement, draw attention to the significance of Luna Park, and honour a landmark that has enchanted generations. Luna Park will continue to be a place of enjoyment, happiness, and connection for many more years to come thanks to the 90th anniversary, which is not just a celebration of the past but also a view to the future.
Building Momentum: Our Progress So Far
Our project has advanced significantly so far. The music group has begun a music piece which is influenced by the famous Big Dipper in Sydney's Luna Park. The song combines percussion, and vocals, with electric and bass guitars with a 1972 undercurrent to create a melody that transports listeners back to the Big Dipper.
In order to bring the funfair elements of Luna Park to life, the drama group has begun working on their first initial draft of the performance, using drama techniques to develop characters as well as get a feel for the fun and outgoing characters in Luna Park, plus mentions of potentially including juggling skills. By capturing the spirit of Luna Park's distinct ambience, these artistic endeavours allow spectators to become fully engrossed in its vibrant energy and rich history.
In order to represent the exhilarating rides at Luna Park, one of the designers has gone further by making a dress with fabric twists and turns. We are eager to realise our vision in light of these new changes.
The Road Ahead: What's to Come
We are enthusiastic about our project's upcoming phases. In order to capture the essence of Luna Park, the musical ensemble will continue to polish their song, concentrating on the melody and arrangement. In the meantime, the theatrical group is refining and experimenting with their performance to make sure it embodies the pleasure and excitement of the amusement park.
To add movement and excitement to the show, the dancers have also started to develop a routine that would go well with the overall theme. The team in charge of fashion has begun debating the themes and fashion of the 1930s, hoping to include aspects such as Luna Park's roller coasters and other recognisable motifs in their creations.
This is just the beginning for the weekly blog of the BSC Luna Park Project, stay tuned for next week's article, but in the meantime check out Bradfield’s Instagram @bradfieldsc with all the latest project posts.
