Luna Park Sunday Trip: A Night of Dance, Art, and Photography

Project Week began early for some. On a vibrant Sunday evening, the photographers, dancers, and moving image students came together for a unique creative journey through the iconic Luna Park. Designed as a challenge to attempt something new every hour, the event seamlessly blended performance, storytelling, and the nostalgic charm of the park.
The experience celebrated both the art of dance and the energy of Luna Park, with each location serving as a stage for breathtaking choreography and visual expression. The result was a night that captured the imagination and showcased the incredible talent of the students involved.
Rotor Dance
The evening kicked off at 4:00 PM with the dancers taking on the Rotor dance—a thrilling challenge where they synchronized their movements on the spinning Rotor ride. At 5:00 PM, the group shifted to the grassy space above the car park for the Ferris Wheel dance. With the iconic wheel in the background and the open-air setting the mood, this performance brought a fresh and dreamy vibe to the evening.
Ferris Wheel Dance at Magic Hour
While the dancers were on break or getting changed, the photography group used this time to explore the park and capture Luna Park itself in all its detail. They made use of golden hour by heading out during sunset to photograph the changing light across the park and its iconic rides. Working with both fast and slow shutter speeds, they experimented with motion and light—taking creative shots of the dancers mid-performance, on the Rotor, in the Mirror Maze, around Coney Island, and in the grassy area near the Ferris Wheel.
Coney Island
After a short break from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the performers returned with renewed energy to explore the quirky Coney Island area. Dancing through the Mirror Maze and around other whimsical attractions, the choreography here was playful, interactive, and deeply connected to the spirit of Luna Park.
The night reached its peak at 8:00 PM with the grand Cabaret dance—a dazzling, theatrical number that closed the evening with glamour and flair. Meanwhile, the photography and moving image students captured every beat, gesture, and emotion, turning the night into a visual time capsule of celebration and creativity.
