Burn bright, echo loud.
Welcome to SPARK, an immersive installation exploring energy’s legacy and asking you, the audience, to question the impact.
SPARK is created using filmed footage of art, dance, animation, photography, fashion, poetry, and storytelling, accompanied by music and soundscapes to create an immersive experience ignited by a spark, the beginning of something new.
Project 2024: SPARK took place from February 2nd until June 6th 2024, and involved approximately 150 year 11 students.
Early in SPARK, the Design and Visual Arts team created charcoal drawings based on stimulus images they were given. These images were combined into six collages following the theme words of Spark, Move, Spin, Fuse, Fade and Echo. Charcoal went on to become a significant texture within the SPARK films.
THERE IS WONDER AND INTENSITY IN INTERCONNECTIVITY.
Your journey progresses to Fuse, as disparate elements coalesce into something greater than the sum of their parts. Boundaries blur, and energies meld.
'Fuse' is the fourth film in a six film cycle created by Year 11 students of Bradfield Senior College as part of their Certificate II in Workplace Skills. This allows for a multidisciplinary creative project touching all the creative industries taught at Bradfield, including dance, visual art, music, filmmaking, acting, animation, writing and event management.
Listen: to everything that has gone before, and everything that will come.
From the embers there is an Echo — a reverberation of what once was, a whisper of memory lingering in the ether. In the stillness that follows, amidst the quietude and grace, a new Spark of creation is kindled, and the journey continues: an eternal dance of energy and transformation, echoing through the ages.
'Echo' is the final film in the six film cycle created by Year 11 students of Bradfield Senior College as part of their Certificate II in Workplace Skills. This allows for a multidisciplinary creative project touching all the creative industries taught at Bradfield, including dance, visual art, music, filmmaking, acting, animation, writing and event management.
The Visual Art skills team, which later heavily explored charcoal drawing and animation as a tool, initially created charcoal drawings in response to stimulus images.
For each of the 6 theme words - Spark, Move, Spin, Fuse, Fade, Echo - these drawings were compiled into collages that hung from the walls during the SPARK exhibition.
In this video, we view the collages, set to music created in the early weeks of the project by Music student Natasha Mullins (who was inspired by the words 'Fuse' and 'Fade').
On the second last day of our recent Year 11 Project Week, one of our Film students, Lexi, tried to visit and film all the teams at work throughout the College. This montage visits many of the spaces where students of all disciplines were hard at work on that day. We've combined it with some of the tracks from the Music Skills Group, as well as some other clips from that week.
In this reel we share a number of the paintings from the film. These were photographed by our art teacher Liz Land during Project week at the end of our first term, and created under the supervision of Michele Edinger.
These include paintings by Amy Tobin, Pirran Laycock, Saskia Kensell, Ava Corney, Casey Goff, Emma Silman, Mia Rosenhuis and Francis McKay.
Music for this reel is 'Sea Storm' by Josh Dickenson & Niamh Murphy, which was created as part of the SPARK project.
Prior to the sreening of SPARK, the six screens play different reels to invite viewers into the space. This year, we put extended meditations on five of the artworks featured in the film.
These included:
Music - 'Ocean Piece' by Tom Waterworth
